A Candle Story

The candle sparkles in daylight,
its carved surface, the glittery smiles.
With light gathered from day time
and into the thick black night

It is lit with fire from inside,
slowly undoing the darkness
Tear fills a pool beneath itself,
melting down the glitter and shine.

The clock ticks and its efforts fade,
the undone darkness comes to life.
The beauty is no more,
the hours long gone

Its moisture all hardened
exists an ugly puddle
It is no more a beauteous candle
but lies all still, undesired.

It might have another chance to light another night
but who will be generous enough
To retouch its carvings, the glittery smiles
be a growing dusk to a hopeful darkness.
